Miles has impetigo
Miles has had some strange, pimple-like bumps on his face, and then on his legs. They started before the splinter incident. One of them had gotten larger and was looking like a blister or bite. We decided to take him to the doctor to check on the bumps, as well as the splinter-site - after school. The school called mid-day to say that Miles wasn't feeling well. He had a low fever and was lethargic. So we went to the doctor appt and he was diagnosed with impetigo, a type of staph/bacterial infection usually coming from contact with an open wound. The only wound Miles has had was the cat scratch a couple of weeks ago - we wonder if bacteria entered him from the cat. The doctor bioposied the blister-like sore to test for MRSA, which presents like impetigo, but is resistant to typical antibiotics. So he started on antiobiotics tonight. Unfortunately, the antibiotic tastes bad and he hated taking it (and will need to take it 3x/day for 10 days unless we find out at end of the week he needs a different med due to MRSA). The doctor said that impetigo is very common, particularly during the summer. We will keep him home from school tomorrow and if he is feeling better, will return after that.
