the picture of (uncharacteristically) unhappy Max is back. Well, he can't be happy ALL the time! Although, fortunately, he is happy MOST of the time!

Max's 1 Year Stats

Max had his 1 year well-baby visit today! He weighed 28 lb, 10 oz and was 29 1/2 inches. The doctor assured me that Max's weight is not a problem and told me, do not put him on a diet!

Max is 1 Year Old!

Birthday Cake Video

Max worked steadily at his birthday cake. He would have eaten the whole thing had we not taken it away!

More First Steps Video

In the course of a week, Max has progressed from early steps like these to walking across the entire room and down the hall. He still falls a lot, especially when he starts trying to go too fast. I haven't been quick enough with the camera to capture his funny, legs wide-apart steps when he goes a long distance -- and that cute, awkward walk is going to be gone (too) soon.

Max's First Birthday Slideshow

Max had a great birthday weekend! Grandma and Grandpa Mann & Uncle Jeff arrived on Saturday. We played at the park and later we all went to our friends, the Hunts, for dinner. On Saturday, we visited the aqaurium and Max was excited to see the fish. He had fun being in a new place, seeing the other children, and spending some time outdoors. Sunday was Max's party day and when he awoke from his afternoon nap he was happy to find the downstairs filled with balloons and streamers. Grandma Shirley and Aunt Fancy came to the party and so did Rodney Hunt and his girls Mirabel and Caroline. Max was intrigued by bubbles from a bubble machine until they touched him and made him wet - then he got upset. Of course, Scoops was interested in the bubbles and his head ended up wet from bubbles popping on it. Scoops made an escape during the party and Uncle Jeff had to walk across a narrow wall with a steep drop to collect him. We had fun at the party; it was casual and unfolded at a natural pace. We opened gifts throughout the party and Miles was glad to get plenty of "unbirthday" gifts. The next day wasn't really park weather so we played at home. When Max went down for his afternoon nap, Miles enjoyed a special time with his Uncle Jeff reading at Barnes & Noble, going for for ice cream, and playing at the park. Then we all went out to dinner. Miles was so tired he fell asleep at dinner. Max, on the other hand, was well-rested and had a great time eating grilled cheese and french fries and playing with his food basket. Max seemed to have so much fun with all the attention of his family the entire weekend. And despite having a bit of a cold, he had a terrific birthday!
